About Louis Meintjes

Louis announced himself to the cycling world in September 2013, when he earned the silver medal in the World Under 23 Road Race Championships.

His early success during his young career continued in early 2014 when we won the South African National Road Championships. His progression continued in 2015, when he won the African Continental championships and then went on to win his first professional race on European soil, Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali.

The results were enough for him to impress his team, resulting in his debut Tour de France in 2015. The season ended off his most successful to date when he completed the Vuelta a Espana in the top 10 overall, becoming the first ever South African to place in the top ten overall standing of a Grand Tour.

If Louis were not a cyclist, he reckons he’d be an engineer, like his father. However up until now, the bike has been what his life is about. “For the last 8 years my life has not been influenced by many things but my bicycle. First, it gives me freedom, then, it allows me to challenge myself and now possibly a long career in cycling.” When not cycling, Louis enjoys reading and spending time with friends when he is back in South Africa
