Tour Down Under and SA Champs

February 8, 2016

This was the first time I’ve started my season in Australia. It was good…we would have liked to have better results but overall it was ok. I felt really comfortable in the bunch and getting to know the team was good.

I feel comfortable in the team. I’ve already started building some good friendships. Everything has been nice and I am looking forward to the rest of the season with the guys.
It’s great to train in summer in South Africa then head to Australia and remain in the sunshine. It was just like home and was actually a little cooler which was great. The weather was really nice and the whole Tour Down Under set up is great. It’s such a spectator friendly event and a good event for the riders. The event is just a really good one on the calendar.

I met quite a few South Africans over there and Australia is quite similar to SA. I can understand why so many South Africans emigrate there. It seems easy to fit in.

I leave for SA champs tomorrow. The race is on the same course which I won on two years ago. This time around I will be on my own so I will learn and adapt and see how things play out. SA Champs is always such a lottery.

After that I’ll stay in SA for another few weeks before heading to Europe for the year where I will start my season in Paris-Nice.

As always, thanks for all the messages of support. I really appreciate them.
